I was curious if there is a "rule of thumb" on whether to choose an output sharpener above or below the rez value when you have a file with a file ppi that is about half way between two sharpener choices?

For example, say I have a file that is at 270 ppi. Would it give better results (on an Epson 2200) to go with the 240 ppi or the 300 ppi output sharpener?

I barely have enough time to print my prints right now, let alone do a bunch of test prints, so was wondering if someone has done the testing, or knows the unerlying theoretics that would result in a rule of thumb on which way to go...up or down?

Many thanks!

There is a whole long thread on all this here: http://forums.pixelgenius.com/showthread.php?t=461

Thanks Mark, but I've already read that whole thread from end to end, and it doesn't discuss the case when your file rez is pretty much equidistant from two output sharpeners, as in my example.

Hence my question stands....when your file is equidistant (more or less) from two sharpeners, is it better to use the lower or the higher sharpener?

Use the lower-rez sharpener?the higher-rez one will likely oversharpen a little.
