Photokit 1.2.2 won't work in CS2 with layered images

I just upgraded to CS2 today (Windows version), installed Photokit 1.2.2, but have had no luck getting any of the Photokit effects to run on an image with layers. Each time it bombs out it displays a variation of an error message saying "command is not available." I'm trying to use it on a 16-bit image in Adobe RGB color space. If I flatten the image, it works fine. Any suggestions as to what is going wrong with the layered image?

Real basic and it's in the manual, you need to be sure the bottom layer is a real "Background" layer, not a named layer. Check the manual for details.

Well, I sure feel like an idiot! I've never encountered that situation before with Photokit, so I leapt to the erroneous assumption that it was a glitch with CS2. Thanks for the quick response!
