Before I started using PG photoshop Sharpener, I used a method I first saw on Micheal Reichmann's site, that I called Haze Filter and others have called by other names like the best I've seen, DeFog. It is USM at 20,50,0 with 50 being the variable. Defog is the correct name "I can see clearly now the rain has gone".sic

My question is I don't know if I should try to incorporate into my work flow or not. The couple times I've tried, it didn't do any thing. So, I don't know two things [at least]; does this defog get done within photosharpen; or if its still necessary, where and when?

Robert,

if I remember correctly, Michael Reichmann called it Local Contrast Enhancement. Sometimes I use LCE at the creative stage, instead of some other creative sharpener. But I always do first a capture sharpen and last an output sharpen. On some images the LCE works fine for me, but it's not a hard rule for me to use it everytime. Most often I try first a creative sharpener to get a first impression. If I'm not totally satisfied then I do a LCE to have something to compare.

Robert,

I do the same as Ronald. First of all, right after noise reduction, I do capture sharpen. LCE comes as part of creative sharpen, the middle stage, and I do LCE on a separate layer so that I can tune its opacity to optimize results.
