View Full Version : Error running PS7-contact-sheet-actions

I'm trying to run the PS7-contact sheet actions on a W2K machine with an English Photoshop
version 7.0.1. The actions are starting fine, but they all bail out, when they should create the first
text layer. Error: Could not complete the command because of a program error.

It doesn't matter, if Split toning, Color overlay or Cross processing was selected.
Everytime the same error at the same place. The sample image was a 8bit jpeg with
Adobe RGB as color space and a single background layer.

Any hints?

The most likely explanation would be that the originating image does not meet the basic requirements for running a PhotoKit plug-in effect. I would suggest checking that the image is in RGB mode and that it contains a Background layer.

No, that can't be the reason.

The image is a 8bit Adobe RGB jpeg with a normal background layer. If I do the desired
effect - let's say Cross processing C41-E6 yellow (light) - by hand, all is running fine.
But if I play the action "Make text layer", the error is popping up.

OK, then maybe you are missing the font required? The font used in the Contact Sheet actions is called 'Myriad Roman'. I chose to use this font when building the actions because it is one of the fonts installed in your system folder at the time Photoshop is installed and therefore if you are running Photoshop, you should have this font installed on your system. I am not sure what the font folder is on the PC. But on a Mac this font is installed in The Library folder > Application Support > Adobe > Fonts > Reqrd folder. Can you check to see if this font is installed?

The Myriad Roman font seems to be installed (in \programme\gemeinsame dateien\adobe\fonts\reqrd),
because I can select the font in the Type Tool and can create manually a
type layer with this font. In the meantime I tested the PS7-contact-sheet-actions
on a Win-XP system with Photoshop 7. Same problem here.
On the same PC with PSCS and the PSCS-contact-sheet-actions everything is working as expected.

My main PC is with Win-XP and PSCS and so it's not so important, if I can run the
contact sheet actions on my backup machine, which is a W2K with PS7. But it's
really strange!

Ronald,

Thank you for your feedback here. From the start, I knew that there were a lot of variables which were out of our control when compiling actions such as this. For that reason, the contact sheets were intended to be offered as a free bonus for PhotoKit Color users. I a glad that you are at least able to find a PC configuration using Photoshop CS on your main machine. That is a relief. But we shall log your bug and see if we can work out what is causing this exactly.

Martin,

I have been trying to find a site where I can purchase the "Myriad Roman' font used in the PS CS Contact sheet action. I tried Adobe but they told me they no longer support the font. Is there somewhere else I can find it?

Maybe this is the wrong place to post this request, if so feel free to move it or advise me. I have not received a reply to my search for the illusive "Myriad Roman" font used in the wonderful contact sheet action created by PG. Can anyone help or should I just give up and keep hitting the return key when asked for the font. I know that PG has made it clear that we are on our own with the action so I don't expect any revisions to it.

During testing we had no problems with beta testers reporting problems here. As you know, this is an unsupported feature. And we would not wish to encourage users to go out and buy a font in case this does not cure the problem of the actions not running. After doing some more research into this, I have decided that the best course of action would be to rebuild these actions for Mac and PC using fonts that are universal on each platform (there seems to be no one universal font). I can't say when this will happen, but when we do, there will be an announcement.

Martin,
I did not mean to create any additional work for PG and appreciate your willingness to help. I thought I read a previous thread that noted the font was available for about $30. I am glad to make the investment and see if that solves my problem, rather than creating more work for you.

Well, if the font is not on your system and you can find it, this would have to be at your own risk. I am reluctant to advise people to go down this route, since it might prove bad advice, we have reports that this may not necessarily work. It will take a lot of time to re-edit each of the actions and so it is on the list of things to update. Eventually it will be more ideal alll-round if we supply Mac and PC versions using more universally available fonts that do not require anyone to have to buy anything extra.

Thanks Martin. I will patiently wait.
