I have several hundred scans from 4x5 transparencies and 6x18 panorama transparencies which were master scanned on my Linocolor Saphir Ultra II which does an OK job with a source this large. I corrected the color as best I could at the 12bit scanning stage as it saves out an 8bit TIF.

Still, I scanned them with a slight flatness as I wished to make final edits and tweaks in PS rather than using the Linocolor Elite scanning software.

Is it a reasonable to do large curve edits in PS first, then use PhotoKit to make more refined edits in tone and color, and then apply PhotoKit capture sharpen whence happy using the 4x5 film settings?

Or do I have these steps out of phase?

TIA,

The workflow you propose seems entirely reasonable given the 8-bit output limitation of LinoColor Elite. That said, I'm tempted to recommend that you bite the bullet and learn to use LinoColor Elite a bit more, so that you don't need large curve edits in Photoshop.

The order in which you do the PhotoKit tone and color edits and the Capture Sharpening isn't critical?each has its advantages and disadvantages. I find that it's easier for me to make fine contrast and color moves on an image that's already reasonably sharp, so my tendency is to do Capture Sharpening first, but the other way works too. It's really a matter of personal preference.
