View Full Version : Sharpening Kodak SLR/n images
Given that the Kodak SLR/n camera has no AA filter hence images are sharper out of the camera than other digital cameras with an AA filter what difference, if any, would this make to the degree of sharpening required using capture sharpener?
This is assuming RAW conversion is made in ACR with sharpening turned off.

If the high res sharpener looks too sharp, you can always cut back on the layer opacity.
Thanks for that.
I had just wondered if this modification should be done all the time given the lack of an AA filter.

If you'd like to send a couple of representative Kodak raws to me at bruce@pixelgenius.com, I'd be happy to take a look at them. The Kodak cameras weren't shipping when we built the sharpeners, and I still haven't had a chance to test any files.
Thanks
I've sent a sample but it is a large file >13MB so I hope you receive it OK.

The images look fine to me full strength but I don't consider myself an expert. I just wondered if I should be using less sharpening employing the theory that the less manipulation the better.

On the sample file from Ed, Digital High-Res Sharpen did exactly what I'd hoped it would do, at default settings, so I don't think you'll need to cut back on the layer opacity. We do the sharpening through a mask that's built from the image itself, so we're basically compensating (within limits) for whatever degree of sharpness the camera produces.
Ed, nice image, beautiful people, special place!
Thanks for the interest and complement re image. I'm happy with the default settings. Another potential variable less to worry about.
