View Full Version : PK Color 2.0 resources error box

I have just installed PK Color 2.0 and notice that an error box is generated randomly that claims that there are not enough resources to complete any particular task that appears to be the reason for the provocation and yet... the task gets completed or the rror box appears after the task has finished. It is apparently random and not easily reproducible. In about 2 hours of use I have seen the error box appear about 12 times. My previous copy of PK Color ran without issue.
I am running CS suite on a Rev B Lapzilla and 1.33GHz G4 processor plus OS X 10.4.6 and 2GB RAM and a 500GB external FW800 scratch disk. Any help with this annoyance would be welcome. TIA.

Further problems while I was using PK color 2.0 to process some images this morning...
Photoshop CS suite seems to be (randomly) unwilling to generate new pages after the PK colour 2.0 plugin has been used for a few jobs. No specific details on which tasks were responsible for the issue but the error message is clear...
"could not create a new document because the required resources could not be found".
The error has caused me to reboot Photoshop and the reboots have not reliably solved the issue on every occasion. Could this be some sort of memory management issue that occurs when the PK plugin is invoked?
I am used to Photoshop CS being a stable application on my hardware and my workflow relies on that fact. I conclude, tentatively, that PK Color 2.0 is doing something that it should not be doing.
Can you help me?
EDIT: for typos

I've never seen that dialog come from Photoshop. . .we're looking into the issue but none of our testers (nor members) has seen this.
How did you update to OS X 10.4.6? Via the combo installer? Or via software update? What is a "Rev B Lapzilla"? Are you using Photoshop CS or CS2?
As a basic trouble shooting proceedure, I would re-launch Photoshop while holding Command/Option/Shift to reset the Photoshop preferences.

a) I did as you had suggested and I reset and rebooted Photoshop with the settings that are supplied at installation. The problem appeared to have been solved and instead of appearing after the first PKC 2 adjustment to a file, it appeared after about 3 different files were adjusted using PKC 2.
b) The problem was evident before I had updated my software from 10.4.5, via the standard software update mechanism.
c) I am using Photoshop CS suite from a Revision B, 17inch Apple PowerBook G4 laptop with 2GB of installed RAM/80GB hard drive and 1.33GHz processor. I use a 500GB Firewire external drive as my primary scratchdisk for Photoshop, which is configured to use 75% of the available memory.
d) I work as a photographer and I cannot afford to have a computer that is unreliable. My computer has served me well for more than 2 years and I use all of your applications in my workflow. I have not seen this type of issue before installing PhotoKit Colour 2.0. I use the laptop for my business and so it does not have any haxies/games or beta software installed. I had tried Lightroom but it clearly was not ready for prime time and I had deleted it almost 24 hours after installation and testing.
My impression is that the errors that I am seeing are related to cursor movement when it meets an area that can take a user specified value... at that point the error boxes appear. I have insufficient knowledge to speculate accurately on the likely causes of the errors so I will leave that to you and your software engineers to determine.
At the following url...
http://www.imagine-photo.co.uk/~jcable/js@pg/
...you will find 4 .pdf files of 100% screen grabs and some accompanying text. I am sorry that I could not capture the cursor in them but they clearly show the error boxes generated by Photoshop. I hope that your engineers can replicate the errors.
Cheers!

Hi Jeff,
Any luck with tracing the source of the error boxes yet?

We've been unable to reproduce your error is CS. We're going to check with Adobe about possible causes but so far, you and one other person are the only people to have seen the error and since Mon when we released, there have been almost 1K downloads of PKC2. We'll let you know...

OK Jeff. I await the word from Adobe, with interest. I have noted that I was not the only one with this issue, from among your early adopters. Perhaps it will take a few more before we can home in on what the common factor is.
Cheers!

So far there is yourself and one other user (who notified us via a separate thread) on these forums who has experienced this particular problem. A search on the Adobe knowledge base indicates a similarish problem where an identical error dialog appears when trying to launch Photoshop, ImageReady or Illustrator. This can occur in a few instances where the Creative Suite was installed from a download rather than from disk. Did you by chance download the suite you installed from?

Hi Martin.
No. I have the full set of Educational version CDs for Creative Suite Premium. As stated... all was fine until I started to use PKC 2.0. As I have been using the computer system without any issues since it was new, (26months now) I think that it is a reasonable assumption that PKC 2.0 was somehow responsible for the errors I have shown... perhaps by exacerbating a pre-existing problem that has not shown itself to date.
I am not a computer geek by any means and would not be able to detect a slow deterioration of some aspect of the machine until it made itself obvious to me. I am fairly obsessive about keeping my primary work machine in good order and up to date and I would not willingly mess with something that has been working really well by downloading games or haxies that could possibly have a deletrious effect on my machine.
My best short term strategy is just to continue with using PKC 1.0 until the apparent problem that I am having with PKC 2.0 is resolved. Do you know if the error boxes, that I have captured with screen shots, will have generated any sort of error log? I wonder if Adobe can tell you how to extract them. I feel that an error log would point the Adobe engineers in the right direction.
I wont be online for the next two days.
Cheers!

I'm getting the same error, as stated here http://forums.pixelgenius.com/showthread.php?t=1342.
It was ok for a couple of days. Used colorkit 2 this morning and the message started showing up randomly, again. I have cs, Powerbook G4, and os 10.3.9. Thanks.
I have also NOT removed colorkit 1. Could that be the problem. The ck 2 that I am using was downloaded. I also have the cd. Should I try that???
CS was loaded from a disk. It is the full version, not educational.

I would like to point out that this matter is being dealt with by Pixel Genius staff, who are in contact with me directly. This message is posted so that forum vistors do not get the impression that nothing is being done to resolve this issue.
