View Full Version : Sharpening for uprezzed file
I have a file 5000 by 5000 pixels to be printed on a Lightjet 40" by 40". What would be the best way to prepare the file ? Should I up rez, and then apply output sharpening for the final size, or apply sharpening to its native resolution and have the lab upsize?

See Jeff Schewe's article in Digital PhotoPro, September/Ocotber 2005. There is also a thread on this site about his method.
Thanks for the lead on the article. I read the thread on this site, and it still does not answer my question. I don't have the magazine and could use some input.

In brief, the scheme (for 6 mp capture) is (as I understand it)
* Raw develop with *no* sharpening
* Upres 400% using bicubic smoother
* Capture Sharpen: High Res
* Creative Sharpen: Super Sharpen 2 (use 1 for 16 mp upres)
* Creative Sharpen: Super Grian 200 (use 100 for 16 mp upres)
* Output Sharpen, based on the final size and media.

By the way, an alternative scheme is by Jack Flesher, at http://www.outbackphoto.com/workflow/wf_60/essay.html
Thanks for the link. I went and bought the magazine with Jeff Schewe's article today. Jeff and Jack use different methods, I think I will go with Jeffs. After all I am using sharpening software he designed. I took a couple classes this summer by Jeff, and Bruce Fraser. I was very impressed with their knowlede.
